Please help to spread the word, online breast awareness appointments are available.

2020 Challenges

2020 was a challenging year for all of us and Lady McAdden was no exception, we have had to adapt and change our services to accommodate the COVID restrictions. This has been a major undertaking as well as an opportunity.

As part of those changes, ladies over the age of 18 can now book an online breast awareness appointment with one of our specialist nurses, via a secure internet connection or over the telephone.

Spread the word

Our nurses are able to help you understand how to check correctly, what to look for and what is normal for you. As 43% of women admit to not knowing how to check themselves or do not check themselves on a regular basis, we need your help to get the message out there.

Please make all your female friends, family and colleagues aware they can directly contact us to book their appointment. If you know someone who has a particular concern, they can also discuss this with our nurses who will be able to offer advice and support.

This has been invaluable to many women as COVID has made it difficult to access other services.

Appointments are available during the day, some evenings and soon at the weekends

Chris Whitty, England’s Chief Medical officer, in a recent lecture at Gresham College, underlined the importance of early detection of breast cancer by explaining the survival rates for those that are detected with Stage 1 cancer is 98% Stage 2 is 90% Stage 3 is 71% and Stage 4 is 28% over a five-year period. Please spread the message that advice and education is available even while restrictions and social distancing are in place.

National Lottery Funding

We are delighted Lady McAdden has recently secured a National Lottery grant which has enabled us to take our services online and to develop a new website with integrated booking service.

We are now focusing on how we can develop our services to women in Essex and beyond, which includes exploring ways to work even closer with the NHS trusts and other charities engaged in improving women’s health. If you would like to keep up to date with these developments you can register to receive our newsletter or follow us and share on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Thank you!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who continue to support Lady McAdden by volunteering, donating to our shops and online store and those who have been able to fundraise virtually. Without your support we would not be able to continue the fight against breast cancer.
